THUNDER BAY -- Starting Thursday, the city will have another craft brewery to call its own.

Dawson Trail Craft Brewery started as an idea between friends John Kivinen and George Renner while disc golfing more than a year ago. Since then they've been busy converting a former office and garage on Copper Crescent into their dream, which will come true when they open their doors to the public Thursday at 4 p.m.

"It's kind of the start of our opening week, which is going to be Thursday to Sunday," Renner said.

"We're super excited."

Starting with an IPA, an Irish red and an oatmeal stout, the pair plan on keeping the operation small so that they can keep offering up new beer.

"For an actual commercial brewery it's pretty much as small of a brewery as you'd want to open," Renner said.

"We really do a lot more experimenting and push a variety of styles."

The brewery also features a taproom, complete with a couple of arcade games, so that people can come in and have a pint. They'll also feature refillable growlers for take out.

Dawson Trail Craft Brewery is located at 905 Copper Crescent.
