THUNDER BAY -- The Boys and Girls Club of Thunder Bay is getting a defibrillator.
The device, used to shock the heart during the critical moments following a cardiac arrest event, is being donated to the north-side facility in memory of Const. Joseph Prevett, who head the Thunder Bay Police Service’s canine division until his untimely death last summer while training.
Albert Aiello, executive director at the Boys and Girls Club, said having a defibrillator on site and available is a great idea.
“We are a very high-use facility and to have extra protection and first aid, as far as our CPR to make the facility safer, it’s all very good,” he said.
Aiello said they’ve always had a great relationship with local law enforcement.
“In keeping with that, we’re also the recipient of the annual OPP hockey tournament and this is actually where the donation will occur. It will be part of that ceremony that happens.”
The donation is being made by the Dave Mounsey Memorial fund, a southern Ontario organization that has made 32 similar gifts in honour of police and firefighters who have died on the job.
Aiello said the fact this donation honour Prevett is special, as the canine unit once trained at the facility and often interacted with children at the centre
