THUNDER BAY – The region has a new medical officer of health.
Dr. Janet DeMille has been appointed to the position, the board of health for the Thunder Bay District Health Unit announced on Tuesday.
She has worked has a family physician within the region for the past decade, including five years with the health unit’s clinical services.
DeMille was named associate medical officer of health in 2012 and has been serving in her new role in an acting capacity since July 2015.
“Dr. Janet DeMille is an ideal fit for the role with her passion and expertise in public health,” said Board of Health chair Joe Virdiramo in a media release. “Dr. DeMille has lived and worked in our District communities and understands the unique challenges of delivering public health programs and services in Northern Ontario. She is excited to accept the role of leading Public Health in the District of Thunder Bay.”
