Trees by the Shore is a program led by the Thunder Bay District Stewardship Council, Trees Canada and Majesta Paper Products. The Stewardship Council, along with several other community partners, including the North Shore Steelhead Association, will plant 1,600 trees over the next two days.

David Viehbeck, is the MNR's Stewardship co-ordinator and he says the trees will help enhance bank stabilization, and provide overhead cover for fish.

The group will plant about 1,000 seedlings as well as established trees native to the area. The shoreline tree plant is the first phase of a multi-year project to enhance the McVicar Creek ecosystem.
