Did Bill Murray really get a flat tire in Thunder Bay and gush about the city’s helpful residents?
Absolutely not.
The popular myth shared all over social media feeds is from the Baby, You Can Drive my Star hoax. It has already been researched and documented by snopes.com.
Essentially hoax sites mass produce stories about celebrities getting flat tires in small towns. The story follows nearly the exact wording with the exception of the names of the town and celebrity.
A recently shared story among local Facebook users appears to have duped a number of people into believing that the Groundhog Day star found himself stuck in Thunder Bay.
Within minutes, the story continues, several motorists stop to offer help no knowing that the man who is stuck on the side of the road is the famous Murray.
While the story gained much of its momentum around April fool's day, it is not something that is intended as a joke. This click-baiting hoax is something that is produced and pushed year-round.
