For hundreds of people in the city Christmas came early thanks to a local business.

The Salvation Army’s 19 th annual community Christmas dinner was served up Sunday with everything from turkey to eggnog all thanks to the Valhalla Inn. Around 25 volunteers from the hotel cooked and served up the 300-person dinner.

“It’s our responsibility to give back to the people of this community,” Valhalla manager Mary McLellan said.

After the dinner, Santa handed out presents for everyone there.

“Right from the very youngest to the very oldest,” Salvation Army executive director Merv Halverson said.

It’s important to remember that not everyone has the resources to make a Christmas dinner. For some families, this event might be the only way they can celebrate Christmas. It’s a special time of year Halvorsen said.

“My favourite part is seeing the smiles on everyone’s faces,” he said.

Gifts were donated throughout the year.
