THUNDER BAY -- Residents will have a chance to give input on a proposed shooting range and training facility.
The Department of National Defence proposed the construction of a new range and training area within the district to provide an opportunity to sharpen the skills of Canadian Army and Royal Canadian Navy Reserve members.
Before the project can move forward, the Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency is looking for public input.
The proposed area of land will be leased to a private owner and located about 15 kilometres east of Upsala, Ont.
The project could feature a small arms practice range with 15 firing plans for weapons, administration buildings, training facilities, such as a rappel tower, and a parking lot.
If it’s determined that that a federal environmental assessment is required, the public will have three more chance to give comments.
Residents have until Feb. 7 to write in with their comments.
For more information about the project visit the agency’s website and use 80009 as the reference number.
