A local man ran into a burning home Wednesday morning to rescue his neighbour’s dog.

Firefighters, paramedics and city police responded to the house fire at 138 Christina St. E. to find extensive damage on the upper level of the one-and-a-half storey home.

A neighbour had rescued the homeowner’s dog before the three pumper trucks arrived on scene, said Thunder Bay Fire and Rescue platoon chief Jim Hutch.

The man declined to speak with reporters.

Once on scene, firefighters were able to bring the fire under control.

"The first arriving crew performed an aggressive interior attack and quickly gained control of the fire," Hutch said.

No injuries were reported as a result of the fire.

The cause of the fire is still unknown. An investigation into the blaze is still ongoing.
