Donation equips Fort William First Nation students for school

RBC contributed money for 300 backpacks and other supplies

FORT WILLIAM FIRST NATION, Ont. -- Hundreds of Fort William First Nation students living either on or off the reserve will head back to the classroom with some brand-new school supplies.

It's thanks to funding donated for that purpose to the FWFN education department by the RBC Foundation.

At the community's school registration night this week, families were presented with a backpack, lunch kit and school supplies for each child.

Myra Bannon, Education Manager for FWFN, said "With the high costs of getting ready for returning to school for families, we look forward to hosting this night...and seeing the smiles on the children's faces. It's important for us to assist the community in a meaningful manner and reduce the stress of back to school shopping."

RBC made a similar donation last year.

The bank operates a commercial centre on the Fort William First Nation.
