There are some major changes happening in the front office at Resolute Forest Products in Thunder Bay.
The local pulp and paper mill has parted ways with its longtime general manager. Doug Murray has been in charge of the local operation for more than five years. Sources say Murray is no longer with the company, and union leaders are expressing disappointment with the move.
CEP Local 39 president Gary Bragnalo said Murray was always very approachable on issues involving the mill, even when the operation went through tough times over the past few years. The mill is currently in the final stages of installing a new condensing turbine to lower energy costs, a project Murray had been lobbying for since 2009.
There have also been management changes at Resolute's local sawmill and the company's forestry operations. Company spokesperson Pierre Choquette confirms there are some changes at the moment in their group of managers but they are internal matters and wouldn’t comment on them.
