THUNDER BAY – The driver of a pickup truck faces charges after allegedly rear-ending a school bus that was stopped with its lights flashing.
The driver sustained minor injuries, but no children were injured in the incident, according to the Thunder Bay Police Service.
Police responded to the incident just before 5 p.m. on Monday, laying charges under the Highway Traffic Act.
The bus was stopped with lights activated to drop off children at the time, and there were children on board as well.
The consortium that organizes bus service for all three local school boards has sounded the alarm this school year over sharply rising rates of dangerous driving around stopped school buses.
One hoped-for solution, a stop arm camera program, was found not to be feasible without more provincial support.
