THUNDER BAY — Thick plumes of black smoke rose into the sky Monday afternoon when a vehicle being driven in the Balmoral and Beverly streets area somehow caught on fire.
The compact car ultimately was engulfed in flames and destroyed.
Thunder Bay Fire Rescue Platoon Chief Joe Rucchin said other motorists had honked their horns or tried to flag the driver down to draw her attention to the fire, so she was able to exit the car with no injuries.
However, Rucchin said the woman received attention at the scene from paramedics.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
