The driver involved in a highway crash caught on a dashboard camera (see video below) has been charged with distracted driving.

The video of the crash was captured by Ralph Ireland’s dashboard camera on March 1 near Kenora.

Ireland and his wife were driving near Kenora when they collided with another truck that was turning onto the highway from another roadway.

Ireland posted the video to his Facebook page. That video went viral after media began to report about its existence.

The OPP charged  a 36-year old Winnipeg man with failing to yield shortly after the crash.  The new distracted driving charge comes as a result of the video evidence provided by Ireland.

Retailers selling dashboard cameras reported a spike in sales following this and another high-profile highway crash, however local police aren't sold on the device's effectiveness.
