Drug charges laid in Nipigon

A 38-year-old is facing drug-related charges following an investigation in Nipigon.

NIPIGON – A Nipigon resident is facing drug trafficking charges following an investigation in Nipigon.

According to an Ontario Provincial Police release, Nipigon OPP Community Street Crime Unit and Thunder Bay Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau conducted an investigation into drug trafficking.

As a result of the investigation, a quantity of cocaine, methamphetamine and a prohibited weapon were seized on Tuesday

Police arrested and charged Steven Mahoney, 38, with possession of a schedule 1 substance - cocaine for the purpose of trafficking, possession of a schedule 1 substance - methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking, possession of weapon for dangerous purpose, possession of a weapon contrary to a prohibition order and failure to comply with probation order.

The accused has been remanded into custody awaiting a bail hearing.
