THUNDER BAY – A vehicle in the ditch in Oliver Paipoonge led to impaired charges being laid against a Thunder Bay man.

Ontario Provincial Police, in a release issued on Monday, said an officer was on patrol on Saturday, Aug. 16, just after 12:30 p.m., when a vehicle was spotted in a ditch.

The officer stopped to provide assistance and determined the driver had allegedly been consuming alcoholic beverages.

The accused was placed under arrest and taken back to the detachment for further testing.

A 35-year-old male faces charges of operation while impaired (blood-alcohol concentration 80-plus), operation while impaired (alcohol and drugs) and failure to report an accident.

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to be back in court on Oct. 1.

It is Newswatch police not to name suspects in cases in which we don’t expect to follow through to their conclusion in court.
