THUNDER BAY — A late night RIDE program took a drunk driver off the roads earlier this week.
Provincial police were conducting a RIDE checkpoint in the early hours of Tuesday morning on Highway 11/17 within city limits.
It was around 3 a.m. when one driver was being ushered through the program that officers suspected they were under the influence.
Officers had the driver use an alcohol screening device roadside, and it indicated that the driver was impaired by alcohol.
An 18-year-old Thunder Bay man has been charged with impaired driving and also received a 90-day suspended license, and the vehicle has been impounded for seven days.
He is expected to appear in court in September.
