THUNDER BAY – Firefighters responded to an early morning house fire in Northwood on Wednesday.

Firefighters say the fire was reported at about 2 a.m. at a townhouse off Limbrick Street.

The two-alarm blaze was in a two-storey home, but no one was home at the time of the fire.

The first firefighters on scene reported seeing a “large volume of smoke,” which led to the call for a second crew.

The first crew advanced a line to the front door with smoke only in the second level of the home. The first floor was clear on entry with flames coming from a rear window on the second floor .

Firefighters were able to bring the blaze under control quickly, but the home’s second floor sustained significant damage.

No injuries were reported as a result of the fire.
