THUNDER BAY -- Snowmobilers will be out in force south of the border next month, helping kick off the Easter Seals annual fundraising campaign.

Snowarama is back for a 12th year, and 11-year-old ambassador Zachary Pylychuk said on Thursday he couldn’t be more excited to hit the trails.

“I’m most looking forward to interacting with the riders, seeing the same people again and helping to raise money more than I normally do with any Easter Seals event,” the youngster said.

Slated for Feb. 7 south of the border at Grand Portage Lodge and Casino, over the past dozen years the event has raised more than $290,000 for Easter Seals, an organization that helps children with mobility challenges.

Rhonda Harrison, senior development officer with Easter Seals Ontario, said it’s always a great event that draws out hundreds every year.

“For the 12th annual event we have 12 Snowarama prizes. For every $100 you bring in, you get a chance to win one of $12 prizes, including $1,200 in cash,” Harrison said.

“There are two rides to choose from, a short ride and a long ride. There’s going to be a bonfire on the trail and there’s also going to be a … dinner, a Portage buffet. And there’s a dance that night featuring Bed of Roses, a Bon Jovi tribute band.”

Similar events will be held throughout Ontario.
