THUNDER BAY -- Capri Anderson’s song writing and voice is getting some attention on YouTube.
The 12-year-old Bishop Gallagher Senior Elementary School student wrote a song for her mother after she was diagnosed with breast cancer last March after her 40th birthday.
Capri needed to voice her frustration and chose to put it to music with the help of her music teachers.
The song was eventually posted on YouTube after she performed it at the Hope in the City event in October. As of Tuesday afternoon, the video had garnered more than 8,200 views.
“It was a devastating time for me and my family,” she said. “I would come down to my basement whenever I felt upset and I just started writing music. It made me feel a lot better to write. I put down all my anger.”

She started to write the song in late August, and would have her mother come down once and a while to hear a verse or two.
“It was almost a diary for my mom and me,” she said.
A clear version of the song is expected to be produce soon. Capri hopes her song also inspires other families who are dealing with breast cancer.
Capri’s mother, Nina Ruberto said she bawled the first time she heard the song. Having the song brought her joy as she went through her treatment to beat breast cancer.
Having finished her last round of treatment, she said when she saw her daughter perform at the event that was the first time she realized how much it affected people.
“The words are quite deep and they obviously came from a deep place,” Ruberto said. “I just felt overwhelmed and it took a long time to hear the whole thing. I still have a hard time listening to it. I’m so proud. I can’t believe it and I’m just so happy.”
