Most anglers checked during a one-day fisheries enforcement blitz near Dryden were in compliance with Ontario’s fishing regulations.
Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry conservation officers checked anglers on June 24, 2016, along Highway 502. Officers were checking for compliance with the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act, the Public Lands Act, and the Ontario Fishery Regulations.
Officers checked 331 individuals, most of whom were non-residents of Canada.
A total of 10 charges were laid and seven warnings were issued for the following offences:
• possessing more fish than allowed under a sport fishing licence
• possessing more fish than allowed under a conservation fishing licence
• skinning and/or packaging fish so that species cannot be easily identified or counted
Officers also used the opportunity to educate the public on how to reduce the spread of invasive species.
