THUNDER BAY — An investigation is underway into an incident that reportedly resulted in a fish die-off in the Kam River.

It happened downstream from the Thunder Bay Pulp & Paper mill.

The Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks says the Spills Action Centre received a report about the occurrence on Aug. 22.

Environmental compliance officers from the ministry visited the scene to assess the situation and to collect samples as part of their investigation into the event.

A ministry spokesperson said late Wednesday that the investigation is ongoing.

Newswatch has received multiple unconfirmed reports that a large number of dead fish were observed floating in the river, and that the water was discoloured.
