GREENSTONE, Ont - The Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency has released details of the next stage of an environmental review of the proposed Hardrock Gold Mine in Greenstone.

Greenstone Gold Mines is a partnership between Centerra Gold and Premier Gold Mines.

The company has been evaluating a property five kilometres south of Geraldton, at the intersection of Highway 11 and Michael Power Boulevard,  for a possible open pit gold mine and ore processing facility.

The operation would have a production capacity of 30,000 tonnes a day.

Greenstone Gold has submitted environmental impact assessments of the project both to federal and Ontario regulators.

The CEAA announced on Monday that it will accept written comments on the project until October 6, 2017.

The agency said it was inviting the public and Indigenous groups to comment on the potential environmental effects of the project and the proposed measures to mitigate those effects.

In addition, information sessions will be held in Longlac and Geraldton on September 13 and in Thunder Bay on September 16.

This is the third of four opportunities for the public to comment on the project.

The CEAA said all comments received will be considered public.
