A City of Thunder Bay garbage truck was completely destroyed by fire last night.
The truck was parked inside a large maintenance building on Mountdale Avenue at the time. The fire broke out around 7 p.m.
Fire crews managed to contain the flames, with minimal damage to the building itself. A second garbage truck also sustained some minor damage, but was repaired and is now up and running.
Waste collection supervisor, Mike Miron said the cause of the fire is not officially known, but seems to have been an electrical malfunction.
Miron said although their department has one less truck, garbage pickup will not be affected.
He added that another truck has already been ordered to replace the one destroyed by the fire, and will arrive in the city by mid-May.
