Citizens for a Waterfront Event Centre are gearing up for a rally on Saturday they hope will show overwhelming support for the proposed $100-million facility.

The event will feature boot hockey games, music, food, clowns, prizes and guest speakers and will be held in the parking lot at the corner of Van Norman and Cumberland streets.

“This celebration is meant to draw supporters together to show city council and other residents that a majority of the public supports this project and Thunder Bay city council’s due diligence in this matter,” the group says in a release.

“The committee is encouraging members of the Facebook site Citizens for a Downtown North Core Multiplex, as well as other supporters, to join the fun.

The rally is slated to begin at 1 p.m., rain or shine.

Guest speakers take the stage at 2 p.m. and are expected to include Mayor Keith Hobbs, Jim Comuzzi of the Waterfront District Business Improvement Association, lawyer Dave Shannon, Royal Canadian Legion representative Rob Cutbush and Jason Susin and Rod Bosch of the CFWECC.
