THUNDER BAY — An investigation is underway after the discovery of a large number of animals, including some exotic species, at a residence in Thunder Bay.

Some of the animals required immediate care, and were removed on the recommendation of a veterinarian.

The Ontario SPCA says that after a warrant was executed Wednesday, a variety of animals including reptiles, other wildlife species and domestic pet species were found inside the home.

The SPCA told Tbnewswatch its officers with the Thunder Bay & District Humane Society are working on the case with Thunder Bay Police and City of Thunder Bay Animal Services.

A vet who was on the scene when the search was conducted recommended that some of the animals be taken away to receive immediate medical attention, but no further details have been released.

A spokesperson for the SPCA said "We would like to assure the public that the animals are receiving the care needed. The Society is working with exotic animal experts as this investigation continues."
