Drivers need to make sure their block heater works and their battery is in good condition.
Those are the two main ways to keep a vehicle from needing a boost as cold weather sets in in the city.
CAA Northern field coordinator Wayne Salatino said people waiting for a boost should expect to wait around five hours as his drivers respond to countless calls for service, the bulk of which are for cars not starting.
"It's busy right now and they keep piling up. They keep coming in," he said.
People need to follow their car's maintenance schedule, make sure the block heater works and get the battery replaced at the first sign of trouble. Typically if a battery works in warmer weather but not when the temperature drops, it's time for a new one.
With temperatures below -30 C, Salatino said it's a miracle vehicles start at all. He's asking people for patience should they need a boost, they'll be attended to as soon as possible.
