A joyride around Emerald Greens Golf Course has caused thousands of dollars’ worth of damage.
Three individuals in their mid-20s entered onto the golf course off Dog Lake Road around 1:30 a.m. on Sunday. They were able to get a number of golf carts up and running and then used them to vandalize the course. About seven carts were damaged.
The golf course was able to capture most of the crime on tape. The video showed the individuals wearing hoods over their faces driving the carts across the course and into equipment and signs. Two of the people caught on camera wore shorts.
Emerald Greens Owner Jack Watson said they cause several thousand dollars’ worth of damage. He guesses the damages could be more than $10,000 but he wouldn’t know for sure until they received an estimate.
“We`ll be able to salvage a few of the carts but there’s two of them that will be total write offs,” Watson said.
“This has happened a few times over the years but since we put up the surveillance camera it has become a pretty good deterrent. Obviously it slipped through the cracks this time.”
He said they got some clear images of the individuals on camera and hopes someone can recognize them.
The whole incident has made him feel more vulnerable as a business and he said they will be tightening up security.
In order to bring these people to justice, Watson offered a reward of $1,000 to anyone that can help in prosecuting these individuals.
“If anyone wants to make a quick thousand bucks that’s one way of doing it,” he said.
The investigation is ongoing.
