Extreme cold warning renewed as February cold snap continues

THUNDER BAY -- Environment Canada has renewed its extreme cold weather warning for this city. The newest alert was issued by the government weather agency just before 5:30 a.m. as temperatures dipped to -30C without a windchill factor.

The newest alert was issued by the government weather agency just before 5:30 a.m. as temperatures dipped to -30C without a windchill factor.

A period of very cold wind chills are expected Monday morning, which will make temperatures feel as cold as -45C. This is expected to improve later in the morning as the temperature rises.

Meanwhile, Monday evening could feature as much as two to four centimetres of snow.
According to the long-range forecast, there might be warmer days ahead.

Daytime highs are only expected to reach as high as -11C between Monday and Thursday, but single-digit temperatures are now being forecast for the end of the week. Friday, Saturday and Sunday features daytime highs of -8C, -6C and -4C respectively.

Despite warmer days, the frigid February cold snap will continue to strike at night. Much of this week is expected to feature nighttime lows of -24C to -27C.
