THUNDER BAY -- One person is dead after a collision between a car and motorcycle late Saturday afternoon.

Police and emergency services responded to the Intersection of Water Street and Cumberland Street in front of the overpass into Prince Arthur’s Landing at close to 5 p.m.

A green Honda sedan travelling southbound on Cumberland Street turned left at the intersection in front of the motorcycle, which was heading north on Cumberland. The motorcycle hit the front passenger side of the sedan, causing both of the people on the motorcycle to be thrown from the bike.

Marianne Guitard, 59, was a passenger on the motorcycle and passed away as a result of her injuries.

The 64-year-old driver of the motorcycle and the 19-year-old driver of the car sustained non-life threatening injuries and were subsequently released from hospital.

The traffic unit of the Thunder Bay Police Service is still investigating and charges are pending.
