THUNDER BAY -- A local man has been committed to stand trial for murder in connection with what police say was a fatal stabbing.

On Thursday, Justice Frank Valente ruled there was sufficient evidence for Randel Wabasse to be committed to trial for second-degree murder after a three-day preliminary hearing held in March that included testimony from 10 witnesses.

Wabasse, 24, was arrested in May 2014 following the death of 46-year-old Adam Nicodemus Beaver.

The charge followed reports of a stabbing at Andras Court, a South Cumberland Street apartment complex, on May 14, 2014 just after 8 a.m.

Wabasse remains in custody.

The incident was the city’s second of 11 homicide investigations of 2014.

None of the allegations against the accused have been proven in court.
