Fatal summer ATV crash leads to new charges for driver

THUNDER BAY – A Shunaih woman has been charged for her role in a fatal ATV crash in the summer of 2015 and faces accusations of impaired driving.

Officials with the Thunder Bay detachment of the OPP say the incident took place on July 18 just before 6 p.m. on Haugen Road.
First responders arrived at the scene of a crash between an ATV and a sedan.

Police say the driver of a southbound ATV collided with a sedan on Haugen road, causing the ATV to roll over onto its side. Two women, the driver and passenger of the ATV, were ejected from the vehicle during the crash.

The driver and passenger of the ATV were transported to the hospital. There, one woman’s injuries were described as non-life threatening while the other’s was said to be critical.

On Oct. 8, the ATV passenger identified as Laureen Waite, 29, of Terrace Bay died from her injuries.

After what police describe as a lengthy investigation, on March 12 Sarah Graham, 43, of Shuniah was arrested and charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death, impaired driving causing death.

She is to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Thunder Bay on April 19, 2016 to answer to the charges
