Feds investing $44 million in new schools for First Nations

FORT SEVERN, Ont. -- The Federal government has announced a major educational investment in a pair of remote First Nations community.

FORT SEVERN, Ont. -- The Federal government has announced a major educational investment in a pair of remote First Nations community. 

Natural Resources Minister Greg Rickford says $44 million will be spent on a new school in Poplar Hill First Nations and Fort Severn, a community located nearly 700 kilometres northeast of Red Lake. 

The almost 1,900-square metre facility will have space for 112 students in Grades 1 through 9. 

Materials are already being transported to the community over the winter roads system. 

Construction will begin in the spring , with completion slated for September of 2016.
