THUNDER BAY -- The body of a 52-year-old man found Thursday by emergency responders has been sent to Toronto for a post-mortem examination.
Police are calling the death suspicious, but until they learn the preliminary results of the post-mortem, they aren’t releasing any details.
“Our first duty in these sudden death investigations is to the family,” said Chris Adams, executive officer for the Thunder Bay Police Service. “They’ve lost a loved one and we have to always keep that in focus.
“Our investigators are working diligently but as is often the case before making an exact determination, it’s really a case of leaving it up to the medical examination, the post-mortem examination of the body.”
The deceased was discovered in a Belton Street residence Thursday morning.
Neighbours told Dougall Media the deceased was arrested as part of a major drug sweep a couple of years ago, disappeared for a while, presumably while in police custody, then returned to the home.
When asked if the deceased was connected to another criminal investigation, Adams said he couldn’t comment at this point.
“The key is this is a very preliminary time in this investigation. It is very complex. The examination of the home is still ongoing as well as the property, which is quite large. There’s quite a bit to piece through,” Adams said.
Police expect to have the preliminary results of the post mortem by Monday.
