THUNDER BAY -- Monday’s extreme cold temperatures didn’t have a significant impact on City of Thunder Bay’s Sewer and Water division.

Southside supervisor David Warwick told CKPR Radio that they responded to a single water main break overnight leading into Monday morning on Donald Street.

In addition to that call, the Sewer and Water Division responded to a handful of calls regarding frozen pipes.

“Typically with these kinds of swings in temperatures we do see water main breaks, but it has been fairly cold for a little while,” Warwick said.

Despite the pipes and water mains mostly holding up, the temperatures do affect the workers. The division is provided with protective gear and receive special warm up breaks during these extreme temperatures.
