CALGARY – The Kam River Fighting Walleye gave it their all in their Centennial Cup finale, but came up a goal short.

Lincoln Moore scored a power play goal at 16:32 of the second period on Wednesday, vaulting the Greater Sudbury Cubs past the Fighting Walleye 2-1 at the Max Bell Centre, handing the SIJHL champions their third loss in four appearances at the national junior A hockey championship.

The game-winner came 1:40 after Kam River’s Easton Debray knotted the game at a goal apiece, erasing Greater Sudbury’s 1-0 lead, courtesy of a Nolan Newton power play goal just three minutes earlier.

Kam River had plenty of chances to tie things up in the third, including a five-minute power play awarded on a charging call against Sudbury’s Alexandre Valade, who was ejected from the game as a result

Ashton Sadauskas made 24 saves in net for Kam River, while Karsen Chartier had 29 shots directed his way, stopping 28 of them.

The loss ends the Walleye’s run at the Centennial Cup, being contested at the Max Bell Centre in Calgary.
