Fill an Ambulance food drive will take place Oct. 21

THUNDER BAY -- Local ambulance services will join forces Oct. 21 to hold the third annual Fill an Ambulance food drive in support of the Regional Food Distribution Association.

Staff from Ornge - Thunder Bay base and Superior North Association of Professional Paramedics will be collecting food and monetary donations at the Real Canadian Superstore and Westfort Foods between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.

During the past two years, the Fill an Ambulance event has provided the RFDA with 4.85 tonnes of food and more than $4,500 in monetary donations.

In any given month the RFDA’s food banks and feeding programs will provide an average of 26,000 meals for people in the City of Thunder Bay and surrounding region.

This is a very high demand time of year, with a lot of stress put on the RFDA to support its local food banks and communities in northwestern Ontario.

This year’s food drive will be held at Real Canadian Superstore and Westfort Foods from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Food can also be dropped off at the Ornge base at 2027 Derek Burney Dr.

There will be a box located just inside the main entrance of the building which will be accessible during business hours for those that would like to donate but cannot make it out the day of the food drive.
