While they’re usually reserved for bad guys, police cruisers around Thunder Bay were being filled with good deeds instead.
On Saturday, cruisers were parked in front of several local grocery stores with flashing lights asking local shoppers to fill them up with food for the annual Stuff a Cruiser in support of the Regional Food Distribution Association.
“We’re trying to stuff the cruisers with as many nonperishable food items as possible to help those in need,” OPP provincial Const. Diana Cole said outside of the Real Canadian Superstore.
Shoppers were handed a wish list and asked to pick up a few extra items while getting their groceries. While she didn’t know how much food had been donated, the RFDA had already filled up one van full of food while two cruisers were nearly at capacity Saturday afternoon.
“We want to make sure everybody is fed,” Cole said. “We want to take care of our community members.”
Members of Thunder Bay Police Service, Nishnawbe Aski Police Service, Anishnabek Police and CP Police were outside of other stores to collect as well.
