A stubborn fire at the old Abitibi Mission Mill kept firefighters busy for the majority of Wednesday afternoon.

Crews responded to an automatic fire alarm at the City Road facility around 12 p.m. Wednesday.

Platoon Chief Joseph Lafontaine said once firefighters applied water to the blaze, it was contained quickly but it took some time for crews to get in position to safely fight the fire.
The facility is currently being demolished by an out-of-town salvage company.

Lafontaine said there's no dollar loss, as the destroyed equipment was all going for scrap. The fire appears to have been caused by sparks from blow torches being used by members of the demolition crew he said.

No one was hurt in the blaze.
