THUNDER BAY -- An overheated piece of machinery is believed to have caused a fire at a pellet plant at the Resolute Sawmill on Darrel Avenue.

Thunder Bay Fire Rescue, in a release, said they received the call at about 9:42 p.m. on Friday night and arrived to find high heat and smoke being emitted.

Crews donned self-contained breathing apparatus and extended 45-millimetre hose lines into the structure, containing the fire to the associated machinery. This limited the damage mostly to the wood-fibre contents within.

There were no reported injuries to staff at the site.

Seven pumper trucks, two aerial ladders and a command unit were called to bring the fire under control.
