FIRE: Sunbow Lake tree struck by lightning

Lightning struck a tree on Sunbow Lake on Friday, igniting a forest fire 0.1 hectares in size. Firefighters held the fire Known as Thunder Bay Fire 048 to the single tree smouldering.

Firefighters held the fire Known as Thunder Bay Fire 048 to the single tree smouldering. 

The strike occurred about 92 kilometres west southwest of Thunder Bay. 

The Ministry of Natural Resources declared two fires out on the same day, one in the Kenora District and one in the Nipigon District.

That brings the total number of active fires in the region to nine with seven in the Nipigon District, one in the Kenora District and one in the Red Lake District.

The forest fire hazard is low across the region with some pockets of moderate in the Thunder Bay, Dryden and Sioux Lookout Districts.

Rain is in the forecast with the hazard expected to remain low across most parts of the region for the next several days.
