Fire tears through N. Brodie Street home

Police arrest two people at scene, reported fire while taking the pair into custody at the home, which was heavily barricaded.

THUNDER BAY -- Thunder Bay Fire Rescue investigators are on scene on Friday morning after a fire swept through a North Brodie Street residence.

Thunder Bay Police have taken two men into custody, initially reporting the fire after the arrests were made. Police could not confirm if anyone else was inside the home when the fire broke out, according to a release issued by Thunder Bay Fire Rescue.

Firefighters say they saw heavy smoke pouring from a window on the second story of the the wood-frame residence, but because the home was heavily secured and barricaded, efforts were hindered until they could force their way in.

At this point the home's attic was fully involved.

TBFR said they launched an aggressive attack on the second floor of the home from the outside, knocked it down and were able to gain entry to complete extinguishing the fire.

There were no injuries in the incident and damage was mostly concentrated to the second floor, with heavy water damage throughout the residence.

The scene continues to be held by police.
