THUNDER BAY — A youth found himself in a dangerous predicament Monday afternoon after he climbed to the roof of a derelict building on the south side of Thunder Bay.
Firefighters were called to extricate him from his precarious perch at a Hardisty Street address.
According to Thunder Bay Fire Rescue, the 11-year-old got stuck after squeezing through an opening that he thought would take him safely to the roof.
But he somehow became trapped between the top of the wall and the roof and got "cold and scared," a statement from firefighters said.
They used a ladder to reach the boy, then secured him in place until the aerial ladder could be raised.
Two firefighters were able to maneuver the youth until he was freed.
He was taken down to waiting paramedics for assessment, but appeared to be okay.
Thunder Bay Police were also called, and were seen speaking to the child at the scene.
