A Current River family is on the street for the night, after a kitchen fire got out of hand.

Firefighters were called to a Rita Street residence on Monday night to deal with the small blaze, which was quickly put under control.

“When we arrived there was heavy smoke showing, billowing from the eaves,” said Capt. Bill Kruse of the Hodder Avenue Fire Hall, the first emergency crew to arrive on scene."

“It was dense on the top of the building and the interior of the main floor was full of smoke.”

Kruse couldn’t pinpoint the cause of the fire, but said the kitchen looked like where it might have started.

“It looks to be. I’m sure it’s under investigation until they figure it out for sure, but it was in that general area.”

No one was hurt in the fire, which saw three pumpers and an aerial ladder respond. Paramedics were also on scene and a Thunder Bay Hydro crew cut power to the home as a precaution.
