THUNDER BAY – City firefighters dealt with a fire on each side of the city on Tuesday.

Thunder Bay Fire Rescue crews were called to St. Joseph’s Hospital for a fire in a basement dryer around 9 a.m.

The fire was quickly extinguished by first arriving crews and fans were set up to remove smoke from the building.

Thunder Bay Fire Rescue officials say there were no reported injuries.

Meanwhile, hours later firefighters were called to a structural fire at 3:25 p.m. on the 1500 block of Walsh Street East.

The first arriving crew encountered a fire in the wall that had extended along the floor joists on the main floor of the four-plex.

The fire was quickly brought under control.

All occupants escaped with no injuries reported.

Thunder Bay Fire Rescue officials say moderate damage was sustained to the building.

Red Cross was on scene and found accommodation for the tenants of the building who were displaced due to the fire.

Late Wednesday, fire investigators said it appears the ground had shifted around the residence recently, which caused a conduit to break.

A conductor then made contact with the meter box, leading to an electrical fire.
