THUNDER BAY – Firefighters made quick work of an electrical fire at a north side home, narrowly preventing it from spreading to the attic.

Thunder Bay Fire Rescue crews were called to respond to a possible structural fire at a home on the 100 block of Kenogami Avenue South on Friday morning after the homeowner called 911.

Capt. Hans Schulz said the electrical fire, which was in a wall, was quickly knocked down.

“There was no smoke in the building so a smoke alarm wouldn’t have done anything at the time. The owner was smart to call 911,” Schulz said, adding the homeowner was prompted to make the call after hearing a strange sound.

“It was very close to getting into the attic and it would have been a lot more work.”

Schulz said the occupants evacuated the home and nobody was injured.

First responding firefighters called a second alarm when smoke was showing, Schulz added. At least seven pumpers attended the call.

A fire investigator was also on scene.
