A recent local charity event put on by fire fighters rocked.
Rock the Fire House, held in November, rocked so hard in fact that it raised nearly $16,000 for the Thunder Bay and Area Disaster Relief Fund.
“It was a night of music food and good times,” fire fighter Brant Kiessig said Tuesday morning as he presented a cheque to the disaster relief committee.
Members of Thunder Bay Fire Rescue are always looking to help out. They also wanted to resurrect the fire fighters ball, which raised money for different charities. Kiessig said aiding the relief fund was a good match.
“We were in on the ground floor with that disaster and we identified a need,” he said.
Committee member Vince Mirabelli said because the province will match funding three-to-one, the money raised will actually be close to $48,000.
“It’s an amazing job,” he said.
The total disaster fund is currently at $1.2 million. Mirabelli said the committee is working hard soliciting from everyone they can, from friends and family to corporations, to increase that amount.
“We still have a ways to go but we’re continuing efforts all the way until Jan. 30,” he said.
