An over-fueled boat led to an explosion at the marina in Minaki Friday, sending five people to the hospital.
Police with the Kenora detachment of the OPP responded to the report of a boat explosion at the marina on Friday, July 13 just before 6 p.m.
Officers at the scene found that a five-metre Hurricane boat was at the marina fueling up. The hose broke, which caused fuel to be pumped into the boat’s hull.
The vessel, which police say normally takes on 200 litres of fuel, received 360 litres before fueling completed.
When the boat started there was an explosion, sending five people to Lake of the Woods District Hospital.
The OPP has contacted officials with the Ministry of Labour and Ministry of the Environment. Those departments are now assisting with the investigation.
