THUNDER BAY -- A multi-agency drug bust has resulted in five suspects being arrested and the seizure of two loaded handguns along with quantities of fentanyl and cocaine.
The Thunder Bay Police Service, along with the OPP, Nishnawbe Aski Police Service and Anishinabek Police Service, conducted the sting at an Athens Drive residence on Tuesday night.
Officers were preparing to execute a search warrant when a silver SUV, which had been reported stolen, was seen leaving the residence. The vehicle was stopped by police and a passenger in the vehicle was arrested and charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking.
The search warrant for the residence was executed about an hour later. The police services seized quantities of fentanyl with an estimated street value of $22,000, cocaine with an estimated street value of $4,350, cash and two loaded handguns.
Of the five charged, 22-year-old Ahmed Abukar, 24-year-old Adams Suleman Ankamah and 24-year-old Osagie Isaac are from Toronto. The two other suspects – 27-year-old Charis Demi Bougie and 48-year-old Charlotte Ann Bougie – are from Thunder Bay.
They all face charges of one count each of possession for the purpose of trafficking fentanyl and cocaine, proceeds of crime over $5,000, two counts of careless storage of a firearm, two counts of possession of a restricted or prohibited firearm with ammunition, two counts unauthorized possession of a firearm, two counts of possession of a firearm knowing it to be unauthorized and possession of a prohibited device.
The five suspects remain in custody ahead of future court dates.
