THUNDER BAY -- While serious flooding isn't expected, a statement will stay in effect until at least Friday.
The weather statement, or flood outlook, was issued by the Ministry of Natural Resources Tuesday when more than 70 millimeters of rain was expected over the next two days. Integrated resources management technician specialist Mike Walker said while a lot of rain did fall Tuesday evening, it could have been a lot worse.
"That really had the potential for some serious flooding," he said.
No damage or washouts have been reported. Still, the statement will stick around until Friday around noon as more rain, up to 20 mm is expected Wednesday night and into Thursday.
"We're just keeping the one (statement) on for the Thunder Bay district," Walker said.
Walker doesn't expect flooding over that time but people living near water or in low lying areas should take their things to higher ground just in case.
