THUNDER BAY — The Ontario government has issued a Flood Watch  for the Thunder Bay district.

The Ministry of Northern Development, Mines, Natural Resources and Forestry issued the advisory at 5 p.m. Monday.

It said residents of the Upper Kaministiquia River, Seine River, and Lac des Mille Lacs watersheds should exercise extreme caution around less-travelled roads, bridges, water-crossings, lakes and rivers.

"Prolonged periods of high water are expected," the MNDMNRF stated.

Environment Canada had no current weather watch or warning for the Thunder Bay area, but there was significant rain across the region earlier Monday, and there was a 60 per cent chance of showers or thunderstorms on Monday night.

MNDMNRF said precipitation amounts are uncertain but 20 to 40 mm are possible, with higher amounts expected in thunderstorms.

The Flood Watch is in effect until Friday.
